Thrives hosts regular partnership meetings that provide an opportunity for networking, strategic planning, problem solving, education, and evaluation.  All are welcome at these meetings.

Thrives is a part of two exciting collaborative initiatives in the West River Valley.

Community Hope & Action is a group that began in December 2014 after the violent deaths of community members in August and then November 2014.

VISION: A community where people work together to experience and celebrate life to the fullest

MISSION: Instilling hope by creating opportunities to support and connect everyone within our community

The group has two main goals:

1) Increase the social connectivity and sense of hope in the community through weekly open meetings and monthly community meals and concerts

2) Empower people to access the help they need by disseminating a guide of resources for basic needs, crisis intervention, metal health intervention, and family supports

Numerous individuals and the following organizations are involved: Townshend Fire Department, Townshend Library, Townshend Masons, Townshend American Legion, West Townshend Community Project, Townshend Business Association, Townshend Elementary School, Leland and Gray Union High School, Vermont Department of Health, Health Care and Rehabilitative Services, Grace Cottage Hospital, Calvary Chapel, Our Lady of the Valley Church, and The Townshend Church.

The WRV Food Group began meeting in December 2014 as a way to bring together key stakeholders around food as a basic need as well as a tool for bringing people together and reducing the sense of isolation in the West River Valley. The group has identified five key strategies:

1) Improve outreach and promotion of the federal food programs – the more families that apply the more money that comes into our school system, which helps all children flourish!

2) Host Hunger Free Vermont’s Learning Kitchen classes in the area.

3) Engage students in different community and school based food projects.

4) Coordinate gardening workshops.

5) Increase collaboration and promote the resources in the community through a Wellness in the West River Valley biannual newsletter mailed directly to every resident.
